Three Days in Thin Air

After three days of trekking at 3780 meters and higher, we came back down to Namche to regroup and prepare for the next six day trek towards Gorkashep , Kala Patar and EBC. We spent those three days acclimatizing by trekking to Thami, the hometown of original Everest summiteer Tenzin Norgay. This is the ancient trail over the Nangpa La pass into Tibet that China closed when it took over Tibet. From there we went to Kumbjung, a beautiful Buddhist/Tibetan village nestled below the sacred mountain Khumbi-la. This village is one of the bastions of typical Tibetan life. A trip up to the monastery gave me a chance to take a picture of the Yeti skull kept in a sacred place but shown for a donation. We eventually ended up on a high platue surrounded by views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Kumbila and Kangtega. We spent a wonderful morning savoring each and every peak, slope and crevasse.
